Indie Pop Trio Besphrenz Are Back with Double Single “Heart Attack” + “Kozy”

A little over a month after dropping lead single “yeah” (ft. Anthony Green + Keith Goodwin) off their debut album bert (due Oct 24), Philly/Nashville trio Besphrenz are continuing the momentum with two new singles, “heart attack” and “kozy.” The singles build upon the hazy, indie-R&B sound that the band has honed in on.

Focus track, “heart attack” draws upon more somber tones, with the protagonist likening the dizzying rush of anxiety to the terrifying grip of a heart attack, unsure where one ends and the other begins. Upbeat and lighthearted, “kozy” bounces between energetic guitar rifts and sweet lyrics that echo a desire to “kozy” up to a loved one.

Touching on the themes in “heart attack”, vocalist C.J. Smith said, “It’s been quite the journey with this song. I’ve always dealt with health anxiety and at the time of writing it I was in a really low place mentally but trying to turn that around by exposing myself to it. I’ve learned to be ok with uncertainty and I think this song has sort of become my mantra through that.

The drop also features a music video for “heart attack,” filmed at Blind Barber Nashville. The video pulses with energy, showcasing a fast-paced frenzy as dual vocalists C.J. Smith and Tay Richardson race around the bar, ultimately settling in the lounge to reverberate the lyrics back to the audience. Vocalist C.J. Smith co-owns Blind Barber alongside Phillies MVP Bryce Harper and country singer ERNEST, adding a personal touch to the video’s location.

Besphrenz (pronounced Best Friends) is a genre-blending trio from Philadelphia made up of Rob, Tay, and CJ – real-life best friends who’ve been creating music together since they were kids. Their sound is rooted in nostalgia, playful energy, and shared love for pushing boundaries. What started in a shed turned into a bond, and then into Besphrenz.
