Indie Darlings Born Ruffians Return with Their New Single “Supersonic Man”

Born Ruffians have released their new single “Supersonic Man” and its accompanying video, the latest single to be released from the band’s anticipated new album, Beauty’s Pride out June 6 via Yep Roc. “Supersonic Man” follows the band’s single “Mean Time.”

On the meaning behind the single, Luke Lalonde, the band’s lead singer and guitarist, shares:

“’Supersonic Man’ is a sci-fi short story about a humanoid alien arriving on Earth, which also serves as a metaphor for childbirth. My wife was pregnant with our first child during much of the writing process for Beauty’s Pride, and he was born while we were recording and mixing the album, so his presence is all over these songs. In Supersonic Man, I’m picturing him like Kal-El before he became Superman, hurtling toward Earth in his space pod.”

Lalonde, who’s been the band’s principal songwriter for over 20 years, says, “Whenever we finish a record, I usually don’t want to hear it again, but this time, I actually like it!”

Born Ruffians are also announcing a performance at the Mariposa Folk Festival which takes place from July 4-6 in Orillia, ON.

Formed in 2004 in Midland, Ontario, Born Ruffians have long been known for their dynamic evolution, shifting from their scrappy indie-rock beginnings to the polished indie-pop of Birthmarks (2013), the Richard Swift-produced Uncle, Duke & The Chief (2018) and the anthemic, E Street-inspired tracks of JUICE (2020). Beauty’s Pride represents another bold leap forward.
