Indie Artist Mercury is Back with a Dark Post-Rock Offering “Faster’

Nashville-based artist mercury has returned with a new single “Faster,” her first new music of the year and latest track with kindred collaborator Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Snail Mail). Having teamed up with Farrar for several projects last year – including her epic short film & EP Together We Are One, You And I and late-2024 trilogy of songs called Swarm The Hive Mind, mercury is keeping her foot on the gas with “Faster.”

‘Faster’ is about being stuck in your head about anything and everything,” adds mercury’s frontperson Maddie Kerr. “I often try to make sense of everything that I’ve ever experienced and sometimes that’s more overwhelming than the actual experience. It’s about not being able to let go.

Balancing a wall of opaque guitars with the gossamer voice of Kerr, the song finds mercury continuing to chisel her style of dark post-rock.

mercury’s arrival has made serious noise since the release of a pair of singles in “Trying” and “Woolgathering” in late 2023. For her, songwriting is a form of survival, a means of finding clarity in an often cruel world. It’s everything Kerr has known dating back to the day 22 years ago when Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” blasted as she was born.
