Goose Are Back With Propulsive and Funky New Single “Thatch”

Goose has shared “Thatch,” an eagerly awaited highlight from their much-anticipated fourth studio album, Everything Must Go, which arrives everywhere via No Coincidence Records on Friday, April 25. A beloved fan favorite since it first appeared in the band’s always evolving live set in 2022, “Thatch” demonstrates the band’s ability to play in multiple registers on the same track. While the song is a romp, lead singer, guitarist Rick Mitarotonda infuses the track with lyrics that are simultaneously propulsive and searching.

“There are always little ideas and melodies getting stowed away into voice memos on my phone. ‘Thatch’ started as one of those,” Mitarotonda says of the song’s inception. “It was sitting around as an idea like that for a while, then came together relatively quickly during a transitional period in late 2022.”

With “Thatch,” like many of the tracks on Everything Must Go, the band builds a lush world of sound to wrestle with the big questions (Did you change your mind, or did it change you?).

“We’re often surrounded in one way or another by voices that encourage us to fit in, and stay on beaten paths,” Mitarotonda says. “The song’s about believing in and staying committed to whatever strange and interesting ideas might be kicking around in us.”

Goose’s fourth studio album and first new studio LP in nearly three years following 2022’s critically acclaimed DripfieldEverything Must Go marks both a statement of intent for Goose as well as an arrival of sorts — a journey for fans and newcomers alike through the group’s past, present, and infinite future. Drawing from the feel of its live performances, the album features a carnivalesque cast of characters — primarily songs written throughout the band’s recent years of growth, including re-imagined live staples and songs that capture the band’s evolving, dynamic sound. Produced once again by D. James Goodwin, Everything Must Go includes such extraordinary new tracks as the searching “Lead Up,” the breezy, atmospheric “Your Direction,” and euphoric first single, “Give It Time.”

Goose – Rick Mitarotonda (vocals, guitar), Peter Anspach (vocals, keys, guitar), Trevor Weekz (bass), and Cotter Ellis (vocals, drums) – is an American rock band known for its genre-blending sound, improvisational live performances, and dedicated fan base. A deft union of indie rock hooks, sprawling improvisation, and driving rhythm, their music has propelled them from performing in Connecticut basements to headlining some of the most revered stages in the country.
