Genre-bending vocalist, performer, and producer Kadhja Bonet (she/they), unveils electrifying single + video “Slipping,” from their new EP Battlewear out now.
On “Slipping,” Bonet challenges listeners to wake up and engage with the world around us through a bounding beat and shining vocals, emphasizing that in the age of social media and constant connectivity, our grip on reality is loosening. The shadowy nature of the song is an unflinching and forthright warning: if we fail to recognize the harms of the digital fabricated world, it will inevitably consume the natural world we still have left. Bonet stresses this point saying “The internet has blurred the line between performance and reality, and if we aren’t vigilant, we stand to lose a lot.”
Prevalent in the chorus, “But you can’t escape the truth, Reality is slipping away…” Bonet further explains, “The internet has made our sense of reality unstable. Generative AI, Beauty filters, skits posing as real life, propaganda of all kinds, people and companies are intentionally deceiving others for clout and attention or financial gain – no one knows what’s real anymore. Even the idea of ‘reality’ has become flimsy.”
After pausing public activity for the last couple years to get a master’s degree in music technology, she’s back with another bunch of imaginative songs formed with care. A stickler for texture, she composes, performs and produces with heartfelt lyricism and thoughtful arrangements.
