One of the most exciting young lyricists emerging across the UK, Manchester-born artist, creative, and poet Meduulla delivers her highly anticipated debut album Tabula Rasa – executively produced by Ethan Hill and featuring Niambi, JAY MALAKHI, Gio Genesis, ROZZZQWEEN, Summer Pearl, and Jess Edie.
Reflecting two years of sonic exploration, vulnerability, and creative freedom, Tabula Rasa marks a richer, more multi-layered sound from the Zimbabwean-heritage rapper who continues to fuse knowledge, identity, and groove to full effect. With her roots as a poet, captivated by language and self-expression, Meduulla personifies love as a ‘clean slate’ (‘Tabula Rasa’ in Latin), weaving her own experiences of new beginnings while embracing self-love, femininity, and the celebration of true connection within her communities. Created alongside longtime collaborator and partner Ethan Hill, their natural chemistry breathes through every track, encapsulating a journey of love and growth alongside some of the most talented artists across the underground.
Immediately commanding attention with focus track “Rule No.1”, a rare, significant link up with London vocalist Summer Pearl and Atlanta-born talent Niambi shifts the jazz-rap charge into gear before “Baldwin” and “Wolfpack” transports us back to Hip- Hop’s golden era – nods to Nas and Lauryn Hill shining through as much as the sound Meduulla is carving for herself.
Speaking on the album, Meduulla states: “I touch on many different subjects on the album, but a common theme is love. Whether it’s self-love, romantic love, or platonic love, Tabula Rasa is a labor of love and good vibes. I loved collaborating with such special artists to create this.”
Born in Manchester while boasting rich Zimbabwean heritage, Meduulla’s potent artistry is a product of her creative environment. Experiencing the complexities of identity as a first-generation immigrant, the young talent found a passion for language during her formative years at school; poetry and spoken-word quickly became a vice for internal exploration and understanding. Inspired by culture, connection, love, and the wonders of our existence, Meduulla won first prize in a poetry competition as part of Refugee Week – an annual festival celebrating refugee voices and their experiences. Meduulla would later make a star appearance on The Rap Game in 2021, transitioning from poet to rapper and catapulting her lyrical prowess into the mainstream spotlight with co-signs from Krept & Konan, Ghetts, and more.
