Cincinnati Psych Outfit In The Pines Shares Ripping New Single “Sunbeam Dream”

Cincinnati’s premier psych band, In The Pines have shared new single “Sunbeam Dream.” It’s the second single off their same titled album, and it’s most muscular and hard-driving track.

Featuring intersecting guitar melodies that propel the song’s synths, percussion, and bassline forward, it delivers a sound that appeals to fans of bands like King Gizzard and Glass Beams with its mysterious and modal presentation.

Sunbeam Dream, like it’s predecessor Paint By Numbers, was recorded in the group’s home studio on vintage equipment that the group salvaged and painstakingly rebuilt by hand often creating wholly unique, imperfectly perfect sounds. In The Pines run Foleytronics – a synthesizer repair shop in Dayton, KY – one of a handful of shops in the world that repair vintage and rare synthesizers. Their clients include some of the most prestigious producers in music. The sheer amount of time spend in this nerve-center is some of the most shoegaze-heavy, psych-tinged songs that feature soaring guitar lines and searching electronic undertones that they have created.

The history of Rock and Roll is filled with examples of bands whose dedication to their craft led to the radical restructuring of their collective lives. This ranges from the cozy decampment of The Band’s output from the Big Pink, to the sinister totalitarianism of Captain Beefheart and Father Yod. For the Cincinnati quintet, the sound of their fourth, full-length album Sunbeam Dream is inextricably linked to the communal nature of the band’s existence.
