Following the announcement of her 15-date UK/EU tour set to begin next April, Matilda Mann shares “Just Because,” another glimpse into her upcoming album. Co-produced by Jonah Summerfiled, the single underscores Mann’s innate ability to render human experiences with the precision of folk storytelling, reframed through pop’s sleek lens. Her honeyed vocals cascade over a delicate interplay of swooning string melodies and jazz-tinted chords, exuding refined confidence.
Reflecting on the making of her new single, Mann describes, “’Just Because’ was the song that felt like it took forever to write. Jonah and I had written a verse and chorus that felt new and fresh for us—kinda fun and sassy, haha—but something about it didn’t feel complete. We left it alone for about a year, and then one day, we decided to dedicate just 10 minutes to see if we could naturally find something. Almost immediately, we wrote the pre-chorus, which felt like the perfect missing piece. Just because someone thinks it’s love doesn’t mean it was.”
Whether you’re discovering her music for the first time or have followed along from the start, Matilda Mann’s latest singles offer a perfect glimpse into her artistry. They lay the architecture for her forthcoming 14-track album, Roxwell, arriving February 28th via 7476 (pinkpirate, Hohnen Ford, Lexie Carroll, and Matt Maltese).
From the lyrics penciled in her diary to playing demos on the kitchen speaker, her forthcoming debut album is a living, breathing portrayal of Matilda Mann. Through the years, Roxwell has been her constant and has seen the twist and turns of the bittersweet transition to adulthood. This first full-length record is an intimate portrayal – capturing love in its myriad forms. The tracks are as varied as their subjects, but tying it all together are Mann’s classic lyrics – witty, wise and leaving you wondering what else she meant.
Speaking about her debut album, Mann shares her excitement: “This is my debut album. Every song feels like a part of me, and I’m so, so excited that it’s finally coming out. It explores various types of love, the experience of growing up and reflecting on the past, the struggle of not being able to give someone your all, getting stuck in the past, and accepting what you can’t change.”
