Los Angeles-based artist, producer, and creative renaissance man Jack Xander has released his new single “Listen 2 My Heart.” This is the first single off of his new EP Drug Free Nation, due out this summer.
Xander has made a name for himself in the local LA scene with his band, The Gerrymanders, who have wowed audiences in and around LA becoming a fixture and inspiration for other local artists. Xander is a consummate artist, constantly creating and collaborating with others.
It’s no coincidence that “Listen 2 My Heart” was originally released on the day dedicated to all things of the heart. This dance-inspired track shows Jack at his most vulnerable. It’s a song that explores being honest with yourself. Writing and recording this song was an act of catharsis for Jack, who intentionally put it to a danceable melody since there is so much release to be found through dancing.
“I was using this song to work through some issues, but it became a banger,” says Jack. “It’s basically about my experience with some people where I got a not-so-good vibe. It was a moment where I kind of saw things come together. I saw things clearly, and I was looking for a place to put these emotions in a song I could be proud of. What I got out of it was a place to come clean and vent about what was happening at the moment.”
He hopes this inspires people to dance away their pain and open their hearts. This song set the tone for the EP, which weaves a sonic tapestry drawing from indie, techno, experimental, and Brazilian jazz. It taps into Jack’s signature genre-pushing songs that aim for the sweet spot where interesting meets satisfying.
