Buzzing indie rock artist San Gabriel has released a live performance video of the single “Tape Machine,” filmed in Marfa, TX.
He’s also excited to announce signing with Seattle-based non-profit label Share It Music, for the release of their debut album out this year.
In support of Share It Music’s mission, a portion of proceeds from the album will be donated to San Gabriel’s chosen charity, HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians), a nonprofit providing access to affordable healthcare for Austin’s working musicians.
San Gabriel is the solo project of James Bookert, known for his past work with Whiskey Shivers, and collaborations with artists like Harvey Mason Jr., Ester Dean, Trinidad James, DJ Khaled, and Anna Kendrick on the Pitch Perfect 3 soundtrack. After stepping away from Whiskey Shivers and enduring personal health challenges, Bookert began recording the deeply personal debut album —written and produced entirely during off-hours while working at a liquor store in East Austin.
The project’s raw emotional honesty and genre-bending synth-forward sound have earned early acclaim, including being named KUTX’s Artist of the Month and winning Best Synth Pop Song at the 2024 PNW Music Awards.
Currently based in Ashland, OR, Bookert continues to evolve San Gabriel’s sound while working out of Sylvia Massy’s renowned recording studio, Oddio Shop. He also tours as a multi-instrumentalist with Goth Babe.
