Pioneering British-Japanese artist Miso Extra unveils her latest single, “Ghostly” – a sleek, R&B-infused track from her upcoming debut album, Earcandy. Co-written with the visionary A. K. Paul (Jai Paul, Jessie Ware, Nao), the song blends glitchy beats and hypnotic melodies with Miso Extra’s signature genre-fusing finesse. With bilingual vocals set against production reminiscent of Janet Jackson’s sultry grooves and Solange’s atmospheric depth, “Ghostly” leans into the R&B side Miso Extra’s sophisticated pop sound.
Written and recorded in summer 2024 with Grammy-winning engineer Ricky Damian (Ezra Collective, Jorja Smith, Sampha) at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13, Earcandy arrives 16th May via Transgressive.
Speaking about “Ghostly,” Miso shares “’Ghostly’ is about returning to your senses and regaining agency. The mood of the song came about when A.K. Paul and I were chatting about our shared love for Janet Jackson and Solange.”
Her forthcoming debut album, Earcandy, co-produced by Miso herself, showcases a rich tapestry of collaborations, with further contributions from MICHELLE, and Tyson. Adding to the album’s creative vision, Miso worked closely with Chinese-Indonesian filmmaker and photographer Claryn Chong to craft its visual identity.
Having been championed by Fabiana Palladino and Thundercat, Miso Extra is well on her way to becoming the diverse musical role model she so desperately lacked when she was growing up. If anything, Earcandy is just a tantalizing taste of what’s to come – the delicious evolution of Miso Extra’s instinctual sound that is poised to keep us coming back for more.
