Barcelona electronic duo CIUTAT are set to ignite dance floors worldwide with their nostalgic new EP Fidget Spinner, released 25th July via Primavera Sound’s label. The four-track release marks a triumphant return to their club origins, featuring a dream collaboration with legendary French producer MYD from Ed Banger Records alongside remixes from Barcelona’s Yung Prado and Feb28.
The EP’s focus track “I Want To Stay” sees CIUTAT team up with MYD, the acclaimed producer from Ed Banger Records – home to electronic titans Justice, SebAstian, and Breakbot. The collaboration represents a full-circle moment for the Barcelona collective, who have long drawn inspiration from the iconic French label’s early 2000s Paris club scene.
“For us, the Fidget Spinner EP is like the fidget spinner itself: an object that might seem useless at first, but takes you straight to a very specific moment and sound,” explains CIUTAT. “The two original tracks on the EP are a tribute to fidget house and that electronic revival influenced by Kitsuné, Ed Banger Records, and the whole Paris club scene.”
Following their previous single “Quiero verte bailar” – which featured a striking music video shot entirely using Ray-Ban Meta glasses inside a mirror maze with tektonik-inspired choreography – the duo dive deeper into their formative club influences. The track “I Want To Stay” holds particular significance as a cornerstone of Barcelona’s Mainline scene, originally released by JP Sunshine in 2020 and a staple of early CIUTAT live shows.
“‘I Want to Stay’ is a track that for many friends represents the beginning of the Mainline scene in Barcelona,” the duo reflects. “The song is about the feeling that, when something becomes a song, it never really ends. This I Want to Stay is like wanting to stay there forever.”
The collaboration with MYD represents a milestone for the Barcelona collective: “For our Mainline collective, the Ed Banger Records scene has always been a reference point and a mirror in which to find inspiration. Getting to collaborate with an artist from that label is a dream come true and, in a way, feels like closing a circle. From Barna to France, we still dance.”
Rounding out the release, remixes from Yung Prado and Feb28 – both integral members of the Barcelona electronic family – add fresh perspectives to the nostalgic club anthems, completing what CIUTAT describes as their most personal project yet.
