Back in in September of 1975 when Pink Floyd released their ninth studio album Wish You Were Here, it was by many considered as just another album by the band. Yet now, it ranks as not only one of their best, but as an all-time rock classic. On the anniversary of its initial release, the band has announced a special 50th anniversary edition of the album that will include unheard versions of classic tracks.
Wish You Were Here 50 is due to arrive on December 12, 2025 as a deluxe box set. Fans will also be able to hear the new version on digital platforms, and own it on 3-LP, 2-CD and Blu-ray. Pre-order here.
Per a press release, the forthcoming reissue offers “an exciting new perspective into one of Pink Floyd’s most iconic and best-loved records”.
The 50th anniversary edition of Wish You Were Here features multiple discs of rarities. There are six previously unreleased alternate versions and demos “at the core of this special collection”. It also includes 25 bonus tracks made up of nine studio rarities, and 16 live recordings captured by the renowned bootlegger Mike Millard at Pink Floyd’s Los Angeles Sports Arena concert on April 26, 1975, now receiving its first official release.
The live audio has been meticulously restored and remastered by Steven Wilson. Elsewhere, the Blu-ray edition gives fans the chance to watch three live screen films from the band’s 1975 tour, as well as a Storm Thorgerson short film.
The 3-LP and 2-CD formats include the original album and the nine studio bonus tracks. The deluxe box set boasts all 2-CD, 3-LP (exclusive clear vinyl) and Blu-ray material, plus a fourth clear vinyl LP, Live At Wembley 1974, a replica Japanese 7” single of “Have A Cigar” and “Welcome To The Machine”, a hardcover book of unseen photographs, a comic book tour program and a Knebworth concert poster.
