Alongside the highly anticipated Season 2 of the anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 and a Season 1 compilation movie featuring a bonus OVA titled Hoshina’s Day Off, a new manga spinoff has been announced.
Viz Media recently revealed Kaiju No. 8: Relax, a slice-of-life spinoff that brings a lighter tone to the beloved series. The announcement came via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, accompanied by a vibrant new visual showcasing the core trio—Kafka, Mina, and Reno—enjoying some much-needed downtime in casual attire. The spin-off will focus on the characters’ off-duty lives, offering fans a fresh perspective on their favorite Kaiju fighters with comedic and heartwarming moments.
The spin-off will feature a story and art by Kizuku Watanabe, known for Koro-sensei Q!, and is based on the original concept by Naoya Matsumoto, the creator of Kaiju No. 8. While an exact release date hasn’t been provided, the first chapter is set to debut in Fall 2025, right around the time Season 2 of the anime wraps up.
Kaiju No. 8 Spin-Off Story
The Kaiju No. 8 manga, which began in July 2020 on Shueisha’s online platform Shonen Jump+, has been a massive success, with over 120 chapters released so far. This isn’t the first spin-off from the series. In addition to the main manga, fans have enjoyed Kaiju No. 8: B-Side, a spin-off that extended the story into new territory. However, B-Side concluded in July 2024, leaving fans eager for something new.
Kaiju No. 8: Relax promises to deliver a more laid-back and comedic take on the action-packed world of the original manga. As Viz Media teased in their announcement, “Even Kaiju fighters need a break sometimes.” This new direction provides a fun and refreshing way for fans to engage with their favorite characters while celebrating the lighter side of their lives.
Meanwhile, Season 2 of Kaiju No. 8‘s anime is set to premiere in July 2025. The upcoming season will continue Kafka’s journey as he works to join the Kaiju Defense Force and fight against monstrous threats.
