Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga is Returning from Its Lengthy Hiatus

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End the beloved manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe is finally returning from its latest break. According to the 33rd issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, the manga will return in the next issue, releasing on July 23, 2025.

The manga has been on hiatus since January 2025. This is not the first time the series has taken a break. In fact, Frieren has had several pauses in its publication over the years. Most recently, the manga had returned from a short two-week break in December 2024, only to go on another longer hiatus from May to August 2024. These breaks are often needed to allow the creators time to rest or work on the story and art quality.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End first began in Weekly Shonen Sunday back in April 2020. The story follows Frieren, an elf mage who outlives her human companions after a long journey to defeat the Demon King. As she reflects on the past and meets new people, she learns more about emotions, time, and what it means to be human. The story is touching, emotional, and beautifully illustrated.

Shogakukan published the first volume of the manga in August 2020, and as of March 18, 2025, 14 volumes have been released in Japan. English-speaking fans can read the manga thanks to Viz Media, which published Volume 13 in English on May 13, 2025.

The anime adaptation of Frieren also gained huge popularity when it premiered in September 2023 with a two-hour special episode. The animation, storytelling, and music captured the hearts of fans worldwide. Even more exciting, the anime is officially getting a second season, which is set to air in January 2026.
