Acclaimed studio, A24 is tapping back into its surreal horror chops with its new Ayo Edebiri-led movie Opus, which also stars John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, and Tatanka Means.
Synopsis:
A young writer (Ayo Edebiri) is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star (John Malkovich) who mysteriously disappeared thirty years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan.
Mark Anthony Green marks his feature directorial debut with this film, which he also wrote. Green, Joshua Bachove, Collin Creighton, Poppy Hanks, Jelani Johnson and Brad Weston serve as producers.
Ayo Edebiri, best known for her Emmy-winning breakthrough role on the FX series The Bear, is taking her first stab as a lead in a major film. But she does have feature credits that include Theater Camp, Bottoms and Omni Loop, along with voice work on Inside Out 2, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
John Malkovich is an icon in the industry with countless roles, and Opus seems set to be yet another scene-stealing appearance for him.
Opus is another movie in A24‘s long line of interesting horrors and is set to hit theaters March 14th. What do you think about this first look?
