‘The Long Walk’ Trailer 2 Drops at SDCC: Stephen King’s Grittiest Adaptation Yet

Lionsgate has unveiled the second official trailer for The Long Walk, the dystopian thriller based on Stephen King’s 1979 novel under the Richard Bachman pseudonym, and it hits harder than the first. Released during the film’s San Diego Comic‑Con panel, the footage sets a grim tone as 100 teenage boys are pushed to their limits in a walk‑or‑die competition directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games franchise).

What’s New in Trailer 2?

A 22‑minute preview screened at Hall H opened the second trailer online, linking slightly edited scenes with gruesome new context.

A shot fired mid‑sequence that was blacked out during the panel appears briefly on screen, catching the headache‑intense execution of a straggling teen, his seizure audible before the screen cuts to black. Even Entertainment Weekly called it “shockingly graphic for daytime movies.”

The film’s brutal logic returns: maintain a brisk pace (about 3‑4 mph) on U.S. Route 1 or face elimination by literal shooting. Three warnings and you’re out.

The trailer lingers on the fragile emotional bond between Raymond Garraty (Cooper Hoffman) and Peter McVries (David Jonsson), with Peter delivering the chilling line: “They say you shouldn’t make friends on the Long Walk.”

Mark Hamill inhabits the grim military overseer. In one clip, he growls—“Who’s ready to f ‑in’ win?”—highlighting the film’s warped promise of glory.

Cast members wore step‑counters; some logged 25,000–30,000 steps per day in character during the filming.

The first trailer dropped May 7 and focused on establishing the rules of the contest and character setup. The second trailer heightens visual stakes and foregrounds mortality and moral cost in full force.
