Yep, you read that right. A new R-rated movie titled Rolling Loud has been announced, drawing inspiration from the renowned hip-hop festival of the same name. The upcoming comedy boasts a star-studded cast, including Owen Wilson, comedian Matt Rife, and the legendary Henry Winkler. Adding authentic musical flair, artists such as Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign, and Ski Mask the Slump God are also set to appear.
Directed and written by Jeremy Garelick, Rolling Loud is inspired by a true story. The narrative follows an overprotective father (portrayed by Wilson) who, in an attempt to bond with his 13-year-old son, sneaks him into the world’s largest hip-hop music festival. This decision sets off a chaotic adventure as they navigate wild crowds, tight security, and evolving family dynamics.
Production for the film commenced in December 2024, with scenes shot during the Rolling Loud festival in Miami. Notably, Owen Wilson made a surprise appearance on stage during Travis Scott’s set, blending real festival energy into the movie’s footage. Filming continued in Atlanta in February 2025, with additional cast members joining the project.
Rolling Loud is produced by Live Nation Productions, American High, and Pat Solitano Productions. The film is slated for release in 2026, promising to deliver a humorous and heartfelt exploration of family bonds set against the vibrant backdrop of a hip-hop festival.
This new movie highlights the cultural significance of the Rolling Loud festival, which has become a cornerstone in hip-hop culture over the past decade. Co-founder Tariq Cherif attributes the festival’s success to its ability to adapt and resonate with the youth, a theme that aligns seamlessly with the film’s storyline.
