Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first trailer for Project Hail Mary, the big-screen adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel. The sci-fi adventure stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace and is set to launch in U.S. theaters and IMAX on March 20, 2026.
The trailer opens with Grace awakening aboard the Hail Mary spaceship with no memory, gradually discovering he’s humanity’s last hope to rescue the dying Sun by journeying to the Tau Ceti system, 12 light-years away.
Echoing The Martian, the trailer balances cosmic stakes with light humor—Grace quips, “I can’t even moonwalk,” and finds friendship in an enigmatic alien companion. Cosmic vistas, flickering stars, and urgent narration—including phrases like “the sun is dying”—heighten the film’s tension and scale.
