Netflix is Adapting Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ into a New Miniseries

Netflix has officially announced a new six‑episode limited series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, bringing a fresh vision to Jane Austen’s beloved novel.

Writer & Director

The series is penned by Dolly Alderton, bestselling author of Everything I Know About Love, whom Netflix describes as breathing new insight into Austen’s heartfelt story. Euros Lyn (Heartstopper, Doctor Who) is at the helm as director, ensuring the adaptation strikes a balance between emotional depth and visual elegance.

Cast

The adaptation boasts a high-calibre cast:

  • Emma Corrin (The Crown, Nosferatu) stars as Elizabeth Bennet, also serving as an executive producer—a role Corrin described as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
  • Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Mary Queen of Scots) takes on Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, bringing brooding intensity to the iconic character.
  • Olivia Colman, Oscar‑winner (The Favourite, The Crown), plays Mrs Bennett, delivering both warmth and comic flair.

Dolly Alderton calls Pride and Prejudice the “blueprint for romantic comedy,” aiming to preserve familiar charm while introducing modern thematic layers. Netflix’s Mona Qureshi affirms that this version “celebrates all that generations of fans hold so dear” while injecting new emotional resonances through the creative team’s vision.

Production is slated to begin in the UK later in 2025, with Netflix yet to announce a premiere date.

The series joins other celebrated adaptations like the BBC’s 1995 miniseries and the 2005 Keira Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen film, raising expectations for smart, emotionally rich storytelling.

Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice promises a stirring blend of tradition and reinvention. With Dolly Alderton’s sharp script, Euros Lyn’s emotional direction, and a bold, inclusive cast fronted by Emma Corrin, this adaptation looks to honor Austen’s timeless tale while speaking to today’s viewers.
