Marvel Studios Officially Begins Development on New X‑Men Film with Jake Schreier

For years, fans have speculated when Marvel would finally integrate the X‑Men into the MCU—now, the wait is officially over. Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier confirmed to Empire Magazine that he has “started work on ‘X‑Men’,” calling the development “very, very exciting.”

Drawing on his experience delivering both high-octane action and emotional depth in Thunderbolts, Schreier emphasized his readiness to craft a mutant reboot that balances spectacle and character-driven storytelling

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted that the film will adopt a youth‑centric tone, suggesting casting and narrative will reflect a fresh perspective on familiar mutant archetypes.

Phase 7’s Flagship Project

According to reports, this upcoming X‑Men reboot is the first film Marvel Studios has officially begun work on for Phase 7, signifying a major shift in the post-Secret Wars era.

Ahead of the reboot, several X‑Men actors from the Fox era—like Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and others—are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), helping transition the mutants into MCU canon.

What’s Next—Anticipation Grows

No release date has been announced yet, but speculation points toward a 2028 or 2029 debut, likely post-Secret Wars when the MCU reboots for its Mutant Saga. The creative groundwork, including scriptwriting by Michael Lesslie, is already underway.
