Director Luca Guadagnino, known for Call Me by Your Name and Challengers, has just unveiled the teaser trailer for After the Hunt, a gripping psychological thriller starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri. The tension-filled trailer dropped, spotlighting raw drama, moral ambiguity, and the shadows of past secrets.
Plot & Premise
Set on a picturesque college campus, the trailer introduces Roberts’ character, Professor Alma Olsson, who finds herself at the center of an explosive accusation when student Maggie (Edebiri) alleges assault by colleague Hank (Garfield). As classroom debates turn heated and alliances shift, the unfolding scandal forces Alma to confront a buried past, as the campus environment becomes a crucible for #MeToo era accountability.
Star Power & Creative Team
Julia Roberts delivers what Guadagnino calls potentially “the best performance of her career.” Ayo Edebiri showcases her range, with Guadagnino praising her as a “movie star in the real sense of bigness.” Andrew Garfield, Chloë Sevigny, and Michael Stuhlbarg round out the impressive cast.
Written by Nora Garrett—marking her first solo screenplay—the film delves into layered themes of consent, power, and generational tensions.
Malik Hassan Sayeed steps in as cinematographer, trading visual styles from Guadagnino’s previous works for a more grounded tone.
A powerful score is delivered by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
After the Hunt opens in limited release—New York and Los Angeles—on October 10, 2025, expanding nationwide on October 17.
Early industry observers anticipate a Venice Film Festival premiere in late August or early September.
