Kristen Wiig & Jonah Hill Team Up for New Sibling Comedy ‘Cut Off’

TL;DR

  • Kristen Wiig has been cast opposite Jonah Hill in Cut Off, a Warner Bros. comedy where they play affluent siblings who lose financial support from their parents.
  • Jonah Hill directs, produces via his Strong Baby label, and co-wrote the script with Ezra Woods. Cameras roll this fall.
  • Cut Off hits theaters July 17, 2026, going head-to-head with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Warner Bros. has added Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig to Cut Off, the comedy starring and directed by Jonah Hill. In this new film, the duo portrays wealthy siblings who must navigate adulthood for the first time after their parents cut them off. The project, co-written by Hill and Ezra Woods, is set to begin production this fall and hits theaters on July 17, 2026.

Reunion and Creative Dynamics

Wiig and Hill are no strangers to comedy collaborations—they previously appeared together in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, How to Train Your Dragon, and the iconic SNL sketch “Liza Minelli Tries to Turn Off a Lamp.” Hill now brings their chemistry full circle by writing, directing, and co-starring in Cut Off.

An Ambitious Summer Release

Warner Bros. has carved out a bold release date for Cut Off: the same day as Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey. Despite its modest $49 million budget, the studio is positioning the comedy as a cheeky counterprogramming pick—a strategic move reminiscent of the 2023 “Barbenheimer” moment.

For Wiig, Cut Off marks a return to live-action theatrical comedy since her 2021 cult hit Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar. She’s also busy leading Palm Royale Season 2 on Apple TV+ and voicing a character in Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie. Hill is also preparing his next directorial venture, Outcome, starring Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz.

Cut Off spotlights two comedic powerhouses—Wiig and Hill—in a fresh narrative that blends satire, sibling dynamics, and adulthood’s pitfalls. With production starting soon and a bold summer release set, the film is poised to make a major splash in 2026.
