HBO’s New Trailer Jesse Armstrong’s Satirical Tech Film, ‘Mountainhead,’ Stars Steve Carell

HBO has released the official trailer for Mountainhead, the upcoming satirical comedy-drama marking the feature directorial debut of Succession creator Jesse Armstrong. The film is set to premiere on May 31, 2025, simultaneously on HBO and Max.

A Satirical Take on Tech Billionaires Amid Global Crisis

Mountainhead centers on a group of tech billionaires who convene at a secluded alpine retreat during an escalating international crisis. The ensemble cast includes Steve Carell as Randall, Jason Schwartzman as Hugo Van Yalk, Cory Michael Smith as Venis, and Ramy Youssef as Jeff. The narrative unfolds as their luxurious getaway is disrupted by global unrest, with tensions rising over the role of Venis’s controversial social media platform in spreading misinformation and deepfakes, leading to market instability and political turmoil.

Filming for Mountainhead took place in Park City, Utah, beginning in March 2025 and concluding earlier this month. The film also features performances by Hadley Robinson as Hester and Andy Daly as Casper. Armstrong, known for his incisive commentary on power dynamics in Succession, brings a similar satirical lens to this project, exploring themes of greed, influence, and the impact of technology on society.

Mountainhead premieres on May 31, 2025, available on HBO and streaming on Max.
