A piece of Star Wars history is hitting the auction block as Han Solo’s legendary DL-44 blaster pistol, famously wielded by Harrison Ford, goes up for auction. The prop, one of the most recognizable weapons in sci-fi cinema, is expected to sell for millions of dollars via Studio Auctions and Goldin.
This isn’t just any blaster—it’s the blaster. The DL-44, a modified German Mauser C96 pistol, became an instant icon when Han Solo used it to blast his way out of trouble throughout the series.
This specific prop was one of three principal blasters used in filming, and the only fully intact blaster to make it through production of the first film, making it an ultra-rare artifact for collectors. With Star Wars memorabilia reaching record prices (Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber sold for $4.1 million in 2023), deep-pocketed collectors and museums are expected to compete fiercely. The blaster is expected to fetch between $2.5 million to $3 million.
Set decorator Roger Christian was tasked with designing Solo’s weapon, with a goal of making the character appear like a cowboy—but, of course, in space. Only one other Han Solo blaster has ever made it to auction, though it was made up of parts and put back together years after filming took place; that iteration hammered down for more than $1 million. This newly discovered version has been authenticated by experts, too.
Pre-bidding for all the memorabilia starts on May 10, and the auction will take place on June 28 on the Studio Auctions website.
