Brazilian MMA star and former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira is set to make his feature film debut as the chilling villain in “The Butcher” in A24’s upcoming action‑horror thriller Onslaught. Directed by genre‑savvy filmmaker Adam Wingard and co‑written with Simon Barrett, the film brings the gritty intensity of Pereira’s combat persona to the silver screen
Onslaught assembles a dynamic ensemble: Adria Arjona stars and executive produces, Dan Stevens reteams with Wingard, and acclaimed actors such as Rebecca Hall, Michael Biehn, Drew Starkey, Eric Wareheim, and Reginald VelJohnson round out the cast. Pereira stepped into the project in November 2024 alongside Biehn, with other cast members joining through early 2025.
Behind the Scenes
Filming for Onslaught took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, spanning from November 2024 to January 2025. Sports media coverage showcased Pereira on set donning tactical gear, wielding a butcher knife, and channeling his villainous role as The Butcher.
What’s Next?
While Onslaught promises to be a gritty, genre-blending thrill ride typical of Wingard’s earlier cult successes like The Guest and Blair Witch, A24 has yet to announce an official release date. Expect more details on the release timeline as the film moves toward post-production and marketing.
