Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have unveiled the first official trailer for The Black Phone 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 horror hit. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the film is scheduled to haunt theaters on October 17, 2025.
The Grabber Returns
In this sequel, Ethan Hawke reprises his role as the sinister child abductor known as The Grabber. Despite his demise in the first film, The Grabber returns with a vengeance, haunting Finney Blake (Mason Thames) and his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) from beyond the grave. The trailer teases a supernatural twist, with The Grabber’s presence felt through eerie dreams and the ominous ringing of the disconnected black phone.
The Black Phone 2 introduces a chilling new setting: a winter camp called Alpine Lake, where Gwen experiences disturbing visions of three boys being stalked. The sequel expands its cast with the addition of Demián Bichir (The Nun), Anna Lore (Final Destination: Bloodlines), and Arianna Rivas (Prom Dates), joining returning cast members Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora.
Building a Sinister Franchise
Following the original film’s success—grossing over $160 million worldwide on a $16 million budget—The Black Phone 2 aims to establish a lasting horror franchise. The trailer hints at a deeper mythology, with The Grabber evolving into a Freddy Krueger-like figure capable of terrorizing victims from the afterlife.
