Amazon Prime Video is set to bring the iconic wuxia epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to television, with an ambitious new series adaptation titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
This marks Amazon’s latest high-profile fantasy entry, developed by powerhouse writers Jason Ning and Ronald D. Moore, who are crafting a visually stunning reimagining of Wang Dulu’s classic novels.
What We Know So Far
This new series will be based on the fourth novel in Wang Dulu’s Crane-Iron pentalogy—originally published in the early 1940s—the story centers on legendary warriors Shu Lien and Li Mu Bai questing to recover the stolen Green Destiny sword in 19th-century Imperial China.
Its creenplay and executive production are led by Jason Ning (Lucifer, The Expanse) and Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), ensuring a blend of wuxia tradition and cinematic spectacle.
They’re promising to capture the lush, poetic martial arts and wire-fu aesthetic of Ang Lee’s 2000 Oscar-winning film, while delving deeper into forbidden love and cultural change.
This series revives a culturally significant story first popularized by the acclaimed 2000 film, which earned four Oscars, including Best Foreign Language Film. With Ning and Moore on board, the series benefits from storytelling mastery and past success in large-scale drama adaptations.
This adaptation reflects a growing appetite for authentic, high-budget fantasy storytelling that speaks to both Eastern and Western audiences.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is still in early development with no official streaming launch date announced yet, but more details are expected soon.
Amazon Prime’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon adaptation draws on one of wuxia’s most beloved tales, aiming to bring immersive martial arts action and layered emotional storytelling to streaming with a fresh perspective. With a top-tier creative team and a culturally significant source text, the series looks poised to reignite global fascination with the genre.
