Apple TV+ Unveils Trailer for ‘Murderbot,’ a Sci-Fi Comedy Series Starring Alexander Skarsgård

Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for Murderbot, an upcoming sci-fi comedy series based on Martha Wells’ acclaimed book series, The Murderbot Diaries. The 10-episode series stars Alexander Skarsgård as the titular character and is set to premiere globally on May 16, 2025, with the first two episodes, followed by weekly releases through July 11.

Plot Overview

Murderbot follows a self-aware security robot, known as a SecUnit, who has hacked its own programming to gain free will. Rather than turning hostile, Murderbot chooses to continue protecting its human clients while secretly indulging in its favorite pastime: binge-watching a fictional soap opera called The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon. The series blends elements of sci-fi action and workplace comedy as Murderbot navigates complex human emotions and relationships.

Cast and Crew

In addition to Skarsgård, the ensemble cast includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski. The series is created by Chris and Paul Weitz, who also serve as executive producers alongside Skarsgård. Martha Wells is involved as a consulting producer.

The official trailer offers a glimpse into the series’ unique blend of humor and action, highlighting Murderbot’s internal struggles and its interactions with human characters.
