A24 has released the official trailer for Architecton, the much-anticipated documentary by acclaimed director Viktor Kossakovsky (Gunda, Aquarela), set to hit theaters on August 1, 2025.
Architecton contemplates humanity’s relationship with architecture—stone and concrete—as symbols of societal rise and collapse, and as beacons of resilience .
Audiences are transported from the ancient temple ruins of Baalbek, Lebanon (AD 60) to scenes of destruction in modern-day Turkey following the 2023 earthquake, framing architecture as both legacy and wake-up call .
It features Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, whose visionary landscape projects become emotional landmarks in this global meditation.
“When we design something, we design the behavior of people”—a key line from the trailer that encapsulates the film’s deep thematic core.
The trailer is a visually rich montage of architecture across eras and geographies, accompanied by poetic narration and evocative soundscapes .
Following its debut in competition at Berlinale 2024, where it earned a Golden Bear nomination, Architecton is one of A24’s most visually daring documentaries. It’s set to open in select U.S. theaters on August 1, 2025.
