A New Live-Action ‘Wind Breaker’ Adaptation Has Been Revealed

Right after the second season of the anime ended, a brand-new website and official X (formerly Twitter) account went live, revealing that the popular delinquent manga, Wind Breaker, by Satoru Nii, is getting a live-action movie. The film is set to hit Japanese theaters this December 2025.

The announcement came with a teaser visual and a first-look video, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect. Though the cast hasn’t been confirmed yet, we do know the team behind the project. Kentaro Hagiwara, known for directing the Blue Period live-action series, will be the director. The script will be written by Yosuke Masaike, who previously worked on Anime Supremacy!, and the producer is Yoshitaka Kamo.

The live-action movie follows on the heels of Wind Breaker‘s growing success. The anime adaptation, produced by CloverWorks (Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia, Horimiya), was well-received for its bold characters and intense action scenes. Directed by Toshifumi Akai, the anime had Hiroshi Seko (Chainsaw Man) handling series composition, with character designs by Taishi Kawakami and music by Ryo Takahashi (SK8 the Infinity).

Plot & Premise

As for the story, Wind Breaker is set in Furin High School, a place known for its strong, rowdy students who prefer to fight rather than study. A group called Bofurin has formed among them, not to cause trouble, but to protect the town using their strength. The main character, Haruka Sakura, is a first-year student who has just transferred in. He doesn’t care about making friends or protecting anyone — he just wants to fight the strongest and prove himself.

This isn’t the first time Wind Breaker has jumped from manga to other formats. A stage play adaptation was also announced recently, showing how fast the series is growing in popularity.

Wind Breaker is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll with multiple subtitle and dub options.
