One of skateboarding’s most iconic artifacts is hitting the auction block. The original Birdhouse “Falcon 2” skateboard Tony Hawk used to land the groundbreaking “900” at the 1999 X-Games is now up for bid. The historic deck, which includes Fury-brand trucks and unmarked wheels, is expected to fetch between $500,000 and $700,000 at an upcoming “The 900 Collection” auction hosted by Julien’s Auctions this September.
On June 27, 1999, Tony Hawk made history at X‑Games V in San Francisco by landing the first successful 900—a 2½‑revolution aerial spin—after eleven failed attempts. The moment marked a turning point for extreme sports and resonated beyond skate culture; Hawk famously declared, “This is the best day of my life.”
What’s Included in The 900 Collection
Besides the original skateboard, the sale includes several meaningful artifacts:
- Signed helmet with inscription “900 in ’99, X Games, S.F. 6‑27‑99” (estimated at $5,000–7,000).
- Knee pads, Athlete credential passes, and Adio “Tony Hawk” sneakers (size 13)—all worn during that historic moment.
Supporting Youth Skateparks
A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit The Skatepark Project, Hawk’s nonprofit organization committed to building skateparks in underserved communities. The foundation has awarded over $13 million in grants, resulting in nearly 700 public skateparks across all 50 U.S. states.
