Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima has unveiled a captivating 10-minute trailer for his highly-anticipated upcoming title, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, during a special panel at SXSW 2025. The sequel to the 2019 hit Death Stranding is slated for release on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
The trailer offers an in-depth look into the game’s expansive world, introducing new characters and intricate plot developments. Notably, it highlights the character Neil, portrayed by Luca Marinelli, who appears to have a complex relationship with a Bridges employee. The footage showcases Neil donning a bandanna—a clear homage to Kojima’s beloved Metal Gear Solid series—and leading a group of skull-faced soldiers, blending familiar motifs with fresh narratives.
Returning cast members include Norman Reedus as Sam Bridges, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker, alongside newcomers such as Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and George Miller. The storyline picks up 11 months after the establishment of the United Cities of America, with Sam Bridges now affiliated with an organization named Drawbridge. Players can anticipate traversing diverse landscapes, encountering both old adversaries and new allies, including a reanimated Lou.
Kojima’s creative direction reflects themes influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, delving into concepts of isolation and connection within a post-apocalyptic setting. The game continues to explore the metaphysical “Beach,” an afterlife-like dimension central to the series’ unique narrative structure.
Pre-orders for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach commence on March 17, with the standard edition priced at $69.99. Fans seeking additional content can opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition at $79.99 or the Collector’s Edition at $229.99, both offering early access starting June 24.
The latest trailer for Death Stranding 2 has ignited excitement among gamers, offering a glimpse into the evolving world Kojima has crafted, blending innovative gameplay with profound storytelling.
