A Box Set of Albums Recorded By Comedy Legend Richard Pryor Has Just Been Released

Late comedy legend Richard Pryor recorded six albums for Warner Bros. between 1974 and 1983 and all of them are included in 7xLP box set titled I Hope I’m Funny: The Warner Albums which saw its release date on April 18, 2025 via Rhino Records.

It is a limited edition release of just 1,000 copies, the collection includes the following six albums: That N*****’s Crazy, …Is It Something I Said?, Bicentennial N*****, a double LP of Wanted/Richard Pryor Live in Concert, Live on the Sunset Strip, and Here and Now.

Each of these releases earned Pryor a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album, and he took home awards for all but Wanted/Richard Pryor Live in Concert. Notably, Here and Now was recorded when the legendary comic was sober for the first time since he was 14 years old.

The liner notes were penned by University of California English professor Scott Saul, featuring a quote from comedian Paul Rodriguez saying that “there are two periods in comedy in America: before Richard Pryor and after Richard Pryor.”

Saul also noted the following, “The Age of Pryor has never ended. Across the six albums collected here, Pryor blew open what a comedian could do onstage, and it’s the rare comedian who is not somehow in his debt.”
