In an exciting development for anime enthusiasts, VIZ Media has announced that the action-packed manga series Black Torch is being adapted into an anime television series. The announcement was made during VIZ Media’s panel at Emerald City Comic Con, generating significant buzz among fans.
Black Torch, created by Tsuyoshi Takaki, originally ran in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. and Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2018. The series follows Jiro Azuma, a rebellious teenager descended from a long line of ninjas, who possesses the unique ability to communicate with animals. His life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters Rago, an immortal mononoke (supernatural being), leading to a partnership that blends ninja action with supernatural elements.
The anime adaptation is helmed by director Kei Umabiki, with Gigaemon Ichikawa handling series composition and screenplay. Character designs are by Gou Suzuki, and the music is composed by Yutaka Yamada. Animation production is managed by 100studio.
While a specific release date has yet to be announced, the production team has unveiled a teaser trailer and key visual, offering fans a glimpse into the upcoming adaptation. The series will be subtitled in six different languages, making it accessible to a global audience.
Tsuyoshi Takaki expressed his excitement about the adaptation, stating, “I don’t think there’s anyone more excited and surprised than me. This is all thanks to everyone who has loved the manga, both in Japan and overseas.”
