Watch the First Trailer for A24 & Alex Garland’s Visceral New War Movie ‘Warfare’

Written and directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza

Fresh off their much talked about dystopian view of a future America, A24 and director Alex Garland have teamed up again for another nerve-wracking affair with their announced new movie Warfare.

Written and directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Civil War28 Days Later), Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.

This new offering features a powerhouse cast: D’pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga and Aaron Deakins.

Alex Garland’s shift from directing on his own to working alongside Ray Mendoza is part of a planned pivot to focus more on screenwriting. Earlier he said he planned to indefinitely pause his directing career, but later clarified that he never meant for his comments to suggest that he was retiring. Expounding, he talked about how non-directing roles deserve to be appreciated more when discussing the process of filmmaking.

Warfare doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s set for sometime in 2025.

Known for their more psychological thrillers, A24 has been expanding the vault with more action/militaristic fare as of late, and with Alex Garland at the helm once again, it looks like Warfare could be one of the most talked about movies of next year.
