A24’s new film, Y2K, just released its first official trailer for its comedy horror film from Kyle Mooney.
The synopsis for Y2K reads:
Two high school nobodies make the decision to crash the last major celebration before the new millennium on New Year’s Eve 1999. The night becomes even crazier than they could have ever dreamed when the clock strikes midnight.
It boasts an impressive cast with Rachel Zegler, Alicia Silverstone, Julian Dennison, and Jaeden Martell all set to star, and Jonah Hill is also onboard as a producer.
Jaeden Martell leads the film as awkward teenager Eli who crashes a high school Y2K New Year’s Eve Party with his best friend. Martell is best known for portraying Bill in the recent adaption of Stephen King’s IT and the subsequent film IT Chapter 2. Julian Dennison will play Danny, and is best known for his starring role in Deadpool 2 as Rusty. Rising star Rachel Zegler will play Laura, and despite some controversy, has had starring roles in West Side Story, The Hunger Games, and is set to play the titular character in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Snow White.
Y2K ‘s trailer teases a coming-of-age comedy that quickly descends into gory chaos, mixing humor with horror for a potentially wild ride. Creating a hilarious “what if” situation regarding the hysteria surrounding New Year’s Eve of 1999. A bit ironic considering the whole cast is filled with Gen-Zers.
Y2K enjoyed a successful premiere in March at the 2024 SXSW festival, with a theatrical release date set for December 6, 2024. With a runtime of 93 minutes, the film will for sure bring nostalgia for the past era.
