Americana Soul singer-songwriter R.O. Shapiro has shared is new single “Worthy.” Off his upcoming 4-song EP of the same name, arriving February 7. This stunning collection of love songs celebrates every facet of love—romantic love, love for community, and the ever-important journey of self-love.
“Worthy” is a self-love song, a letter from the songwriter to his younger self, and a reminder that no one should be defined by their worst mistakes. The track was recorded in Durham, NC with producer and multi-instrumentalist Phil Cook (Hiss Golden Messenger, Bon Iver), and features Riley Calcagno (Viv & Riley) on fiddle.
In January of 2020, a traveling musician moved from Austin, TX to San Diego, CA to live with his longtime partner, their first time living together. Then the world shut down, and they were really living together. During that strange and novel period, with ample time for self-reflection and sweet intimacy, the germs of these love songs were born. In April of 2021, our traveler took space at a residency in the hilltop Walkerville neighborhood of a snowy Butte, MT to fully write the songs out. He took them on the road with him soon after, once the ropes were lifted high enough to sneak out, honing the performance and smoothing out the lyrical edges in front of supportive crowds. During his wandering he kept his heart open to different recording situations, looking for safe and beautiful places to capture these tunes for posterity, and trustworthy collaborators whose craft he admired. The Worthy EP is composed of two such scenarios.
