NYC Darkwave Duo MIDNIGHTCHOIR Release New EP ‘Temptation (Demos)’

Exploring the melancholy of this treacherous political moment

Emerging NYC darkwave and post-punk duo MIDNIGHTCHOIR have just released a collection of songs they’ve been performing live this year, TEMPTATION (DEMOS)

The collection of songs expands on the post-goth, romantic radicalism of recent single “Blackout” and fan-favorite “Molotov.” The moody set of six songs opens with the driving darkwave of “Blackout,” as singer Patrick Bobilin croons menacingly as Sarah Simon hammers out a powerful rhythm. From there, it dips into industrial territory on “Foolish Hearts” and “The Ride” before landing on the swooning post-apocalyptic gospel choir that ends Spinning.

The collection is supported by a video for “Tempted” that blends a live performance at famed Brooklyn venue Saint Vitus with video shot in a candlelit studio environment. As the act becomes notorious for their intense live performances, the video is a great introduction to Bobilin’s confrontational charm balanced by Simon’s cooler on-stage poise.

TEMPTATION (DEMOS) explores the melancholy of this treacherous political moment, weaving personal and political narratives together. The songs cover romance, power, religion, capital, and their influence on social and romantic relationships.

New York-born and raised Patrick Bobilin and Sarah Simon have led MIDNIGHTCHOIR since 2023, and TEMPTATION (DEMOS) shows the band collaborating more and expanding beyond their influences of goth and post-punk acts like Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode.
