“Fight” by Murcof originated from a metallic drone sound created for an unreleased sci-fi video game. Murcof, blending ambient, drone, and Fourth World influences, expanded the track into a dark, dynamic piece, featuring his daughter’s voice in a climactic call to action. “Fight” was part of the Twin Color project, which premiered at Mutek Festival in Montreal, showcasing his evolving signature sound.
Released on October 1st, “Fight” is the second extract from Twin Color Vol. 1, the new album by Mexican ambient mastermind Murcof, set to be released on November 15th, 2024. The single is accompanied by an official video directed by Simon Geilfus and Robert Hodgin, using video material from their A/V performance of the same name, which premiered at Mutek Montreal at the end of August 2024.
The official video for “Fight” carries a subtle, mounting tension, much like the suspense in a mystery-horror film where the real danger remains hidden. Its vivid aesthetic portrays a slow walk through a forest, gradually unveiling mysterious, extraterrestrial forms. The blend of eerie visuals and sound creates a haunting yet captivating experience, blurring the line between the familiar and the unknown.
Murcof, born Fernando Corona in 1970 in Tijuana, Mexico, draws deep from his Mexican roots and diverse influences. His early exposure to classical music through his father and traditional Mexican sounds from his mother shaped his eclectic taste. Inspired by electronic pioneers like Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream, he began experimenting with music in the early 80s, using a Casio keyboard and exploring ambient and glitch music.
