The Hunter x Hunter manga is set to make its highly anticipated return to Weekly Shonen Jump on October 7, 2024, in the magazine’s 45th issue. This marks the end of a hiatus that began in January 2023 due to health concerns for the series’ creator, Yoshihiro Togashi.
However, there’s a notable change in how the manga will be serialized moving forward—it will no longer follow the traditional weekly release schedule. This decision was made after careful consultation between Shueisha and Togashi, acknowledging the author’s ongoing health issues.
In addition to the manga’s return, Shueisha will release the 38th compiled book volume on September 4, 2024. This volume follows the 37th volume, which was published in November 2022 after a four-year gap. Viz Media released an English version of the 37th volume last October, highlighting the global demand for this beloved series.
Togashi has kept fans engaged with updates on his progress through social media posts on X (formerly Twitter). He revealed in March 2023 that chapter 401 had been completed, though he didn’t specify when the manga would resume serialization. By May, he had teased that he was working on chapter 405, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come.
Since its debut in 1998, Hunter x Hunter has become a cornerstone of manga culture, inspiring two television anime series, two anime films, several original video animations (OVAs), and even stage plays. The manga’s return is a significant event for fans who have been eagerly awaiting new content.
Moreover, the Hunter x Hunter universe is expanding beyond manga and anime. Bushiroad Games and Eighting are developing a 2D 3v3 fighting game titled Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact. The game, which will be released this year on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, promises to bring the intense battles and unique Nen abilities of the series’ characters to life in an exciting new format.
