Philly alt-rock mainstays Grayscale have bared their souls on their vulnerable new single “Don’t Leave Me in The Dark,” available to stream now on all DSPs worldwide. The track comes ahead of the band’s fourth studio album The Hart, out January 31st.
“This song reflects my experience watching my mom struggle with addiction,” says vocalist Collin Walsh. “Leaving someone deep in addiction alone with themselves sometimes feels like leaving a scared child alone in the dark. I drew a comparison between how kids fear the dark and how adults face their own ‘dark places’ when battling something like addiction. There were moments when my mom would hold onto me and say, ‘Don’t leave me here,’ in her lowest points. I took that sentiment and my thoughts about ‘the dark’ to inspire the song’s title.
“It’s exhausting trying to stay strong for someone you care about. It’s especially daunting when it feels like the odds are stacked against them. We have a lot of evil systems that profit from addiction in this country. This song captures that sense of helplessness, knowing you want to help but also recognizing how rigged the game is.”
Grayscale also announced a special hometown album release show with guest appearances at The Fillmore on December 21st, which will feature a full album playthrough one month ahead of its release. Tickets can be purchased here.
Grayscale originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has been actively touring and recording music since 2016. Forming an instant bond as both friends and musicians, they embarked on a musical journey that has defined their lives together.
