Gintama may not have the same mainstream recognition as giants like Dragon Ball, One Piece, and My Hero Academia, but it has built a dedicated fanbase since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2003. Known for its surreal humor and outrageous storytelling, Gintama has continued to delight fans over the years. Now, Gintama is gearing up for its much-anticipated return with a new anime series!
The upcoming series, 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei, will be a unique spin-off that focuses on Gintoki Sakata in a classroom setting rather than his usual sword-wielding antics. This side story, created by Gintama’s original author, Hideaki Sorachi, first appeared as a manga in 2006 and was previously animated as ending bumpers in earlier adaptations. While fans are used to Gintoki’s wild adventures, this series will shift gears, centering on his experiences as a teacher.
In true Gintama fashion, the newly released trailer for 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei is as quirky and idiosyncratic as the franchise itself. Instead of revealing extensive new footage, the trailer primarily showcases conversations that take place outside of the classroom, hinting at the comedic and heartwarming interactions that await viewers.
The series is set to premiere in Japan in October 2025, giving fans a little more than a year to prepare for this fresh take on their favorite characters. The animation will be handled by Bandai Namco Pictures, known for its work on previous Gintama series, ensuring that the beloved style and humor of the original will be preserved.
The direction of the new anime will be in the hands of Makoto Moriwaki, a director known for his work on Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. With such a talented team in place, fans can be hopeful that the new series will do justice to the legacy of Gintama while exploring this new narrative.

Gintama Future
As for the main Gintama series, there has been no news of a continuation following the film Gintama: The Very Final, which was promoted as the grand finale. This could indicate that if Gintama returns outside of the new anime spin-off, it may take the form of a remake rather than a direct sequel.
