British electro greats New Order, the band that grew out of Joy Division are set to release another box set in their ‘Definitive’ series. After 2023 reissues of their Substance and Low-Life albums, this time it is the turn for New Order’s 1986 album Brotherhood, which will get its ‘Definitive’ edition box set on November 22, 2024, through Warner.
The limited-edition box set of Brotherhood will include a vinyl LP of the original album, as well as two CDs—one with the original album and one containing nine unreleased tracks and demos from a 1985 recording session in Japan. It will also feature two DVDs with TV appearances, live sets from Brixton Academy (1987), G-Mex Manchester (1986), and more. New Order has also thrown in 12″ singles of classic tracks like “Bizarre Love Triangle,” “State of the Nation,” and “Touched by the Hand of God.”
Brotherhood is the fourth studio album by New Order, released on 29 September 1986 by Factory Records. It saw the band further exploring their mix of post-punk and electronic styles, with the track listing being conceptually divided into “disco and rock sides.”
Stephen Morris (the band’s drummer) stated that the album “was kind of done in a schizophrenic mood that we were trying to do one side synthesizers and one side guitars”, which he retrospectively stated “didn’t quite work.”
