Blood on the Tracks, a classic, and one of Bob Dylan’s best albums will have its 50th anniversary in January 2025 and this was an occasion for the Oklahoma’s Bob Dylan Center to organize a big celebration.
“Shelter From the Storm” will take place January 24 at Cain’s Ballroom, and will feature a bunch of artists performing the album’s songs and others from Dylan’s discography, including Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Sharon Van Etten, The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, Real Estate‘s Martin Courtney, Robyn Hitchcock, Kevin Morby, Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray, Michael Shannon with Jason Narducy, Lonnie Holley, Diana Krall, Laura Cantrell, Emma Swift, Paul Metsa, and more.
The house band will include Brad and Phil Cook, Ben Folds Five’s Darren Jessee, Chatham County Line, and Doug Keith, who will also serve as musical director. Gregg Inhofer, Kevin Odengard, and Billy Peterson, all of whom played on the original album, will also perform, and actor Luke Wilson will emcee.
Blood on the Tracks was Bob Dylan’s 15th studio album, and it marked Dylan’s return to Columbia after a two-album stint with Asylum Records. The album’s songs have been linked to tensions in Dylan’s personal life, including his estrangement from his then-wife Sara. Although Blood on the Tracks initially received mixed reviews from critics, it has retrospectively been acclaimed as one of Dylan’s best albums by both critics and fans and various publications have since listed it as one of the greatest albums of all time.
