Your Neighbors, the beautifully chaotic outfit helmed by songwriter/producer Walker Robinson, have shared their irresistible indie-pop single “DOGMA.” The track is about being brought up in a religious household and the frustration of not being heard and in turn losing your faith. The band also just wrapped up a successful supporting US run with English multi-instrumentalist Alfie Templeman.
“This song essentially depicts someone turning their back on their religious upbringing,” says Robinson. “They’ve been told that God is there to answer their prayers but it seems like those prayers are falling on deaf ears. There’s a bit of ego depicted in the bridge where the person feels like they are ‘owed’ a miracle because of how hard their life is. If God doesn’t believe in me, why would I believe in them?”
Your Neighbors is headed by an insecure, low rent, drunken has-been with high expectations and a damning sense of self-awareness (aka Walker Robinson). He hires world-class producers and extremely talented musicians to make up for his lack of instrumental prowess and shallow lyrics. From Dad Rock to Hip-Hop, Your Neighbors hopes to find a foothold in the music world by throwing anything and everything at the wall hoping something will stick.
Almost monthly, he plans on releasing new songs inspired by artists who are miles ahead of him creatively. If you don’t like the most recent release, not to worry. He will likely do a 180 and completely dismantle another genre in the next month. Come along for the journey and embrace the chaos – it knows no bounds.
