Every good, authentic rapper concentrates on her/his specific environment and social and musical surroundings. That is the content that makes them real and the content their audience can relate to. Yet, to do that you not only have to be good at selecting your samples and beats, but primarily the way you construct your lyrics and verses and, of course, the way you present them, both vocally and rhythmically.
Dallas, Texas rapper Nana Bangz has been doing that since she started releasing her music back in 2018 – drawing inspiration from her Southern roots, both social and music-wise. Bangz has previously been able to exemplify all the above characteristics in her tracks like “Rah Rah” (2022) and “Show Out” (2023), and she does it again in “Alive,” her latest offering.
Like a good connoisseur, she picks up a vintage jazz/doo-wop sample over which she weaves her words and rhymes in an excellent vocal and rhythmic fashion. Repeated listens offer the complexity and quality of how Nana Bangz has constructed “Alive,” making her truly confirm the title here.
It is yet another confirmation that Nana Bangz is on the right track to having the talent and emotions she exhibits in her music and raps more recognized.
