Creative modern classical composer vaghy has released a new single “When The Night Falls” featuring interdisciplinary artist Ohnody, alongside a music video. This colossal collaboration was supported by the National Cultural Fund of Hungary.
“When The Night Falls” was produced by vaghy and Ohnody, mixed and mastered by Ferenc Stámusz (Stamusic.Studios Budapest), with songwriting credits going to Ohnody. It’s a masterfully composed offering, as vaghy showcases his deft piano skills. The track opens with a supple, yet poignant piano melody which sets the stage for Ohnody’s succulent vocals. It’s deeply moving, with an air of grief and renewal throughout, emphasised by subtle electronic music effects. The music video parallels this duality, featuring a breathtaking performance by a dancer in an empty home, while alternating between shots inside the home and outdoors, as the sun begins to fade during twilight.
Tamás Vághy started playing piano at 6-years-old and is classically trained in piano. Under the vaghy moniker, he shifted directions, arranging piano, synths and vintage instruments into serene symphonies. He organized Piano Day in Budapest, where he played alongside Lubomyr Melnyk at the Müpa, formerly known as the Palace of Arts. Drawing influence from Keith Jarrett’s album The Köln Concert, he creates music comparable to the likes of Björk, AURORA and Laura Marling.
Ohnody is the solo project of Budapest-based artist Dori Hegyi, who merges visual art and poetry with delicate and emotively-driven vocals.
Bence Szemerey from Odesa Films, who filmed the video shares: “The concept of the film is based on the music video’s title. Its dual nature inspired me to find the boundary that matches the line “when the night falls”—a special moment when light and dark coexist. The dancer performs inside a house with a small tree at its center, while simultaneously dancing in a forest with a tiny house in the middle. This duality is enhanced by shooting the entire music video during the “blue hour” – that magical time after sunset when the night falls.”
