Casii Stephan is a MN born, indie-pop meets soul-rock singer-songwriter now based in Tulsa, OK, and she’s dropped off her new single “Average Man.”
The soul-drenched funk pop meets rock single was produced by Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes, St. Paul and the Broken Bones). Casii confides that the song was, “inspired by Shania Twain’s documentary where her ex-husband cheated on her while she was going through lyme disease, an Oncology Nurse told me it’s so common for some men to leave their partners when they get cancer that nurses will counsel women about it. When I heard this I knew I needed to write out my anger. These men seem to think they have the right to “better” partners when women lose their “resources” and I just wanted to cut their ego with a song. A woman’s value is more than her health; if you can’t see that, please stay single.”
“Average Man” is the third single off of Casii’s upcoming EP Relationship Status set for release later this summer.
The songwriter recently traveled to Muscle Shoals, AL to record with producer Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes, St. Paul and the Broken Bones). The concept EP to be titled, Relationship Status takes the listener on the emotional journey of going from one relationship status to another and finally landing on the realization that these statuses do not define you.
Casii writes her songs honestly, from the depths of her emotions, with lyrics that pushback on negative societal norms like sexism, ageism and “playing nice” as a woman.
