Casbah, an Early Beatles Club, is Now an Airbnb Run by Pete Best

It staged over 40 performances by The Beatles

The Casbah Coffee Club, located in West Derby, Liverpool, England is an iconic venue that opened its doors to many musicians who would go on to become musical legends and pioneers of the Merseybeat scene, including The Beatles.

The venue closed in 1962, but before that, The Quarrymen, John Lennon’s original band, performed on 13 times, and it later staged over 40 performances by The Beatles. It was easy for the venue to gain access to the band, given the owner was Mona Best, the mother of The Beatles’ original drummer, Pete Best.

Bands would perform in the basement, and the upstairs unit was a living section. Best originally moved into the property when he was 12 and recalls the nights he spent with the band there. “The Beatles played here, The Beatles partied here and The Beatles slept here,” he said to the Press Association.

It is actually Best who now turned the Casbah Coffee Club into an Airbnb, which he has called a “lasting tribute” to The Beatles and a projection of his mother’s dream when she initially opened the facility. Additionally, it allows fans to follow in the footsteps of their idols. Best and his younger brother, Roag, the son of the Beatles road manager Neil Aspinall, took on the project. The two have been working on the conversion since 2020 and are now finally ready to open the property to the public.

The accommodation is Beatles-themed, and each of the five suites is named after a member of the Beatles. Guests can stay in rooms named after John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney, and George Harrison, as well as Stuart Sutcliffe, the band’s original bassist, and Pete Best, the original drummer.
